Menopause affects all women. It marks the end of a woman’s reproductive period and is a term that describes the changes a woman experiences just before or after she stops menstruating. Menopause is caused by the ovaries halting production of an egg every month and menstruation stopping. This typically occurs naturally after the age of 45 years old.
Symptoms may include:
Natural menopause occurs in three stages:
Perimenopause – Ovaries gradually produce less estrogen and lasts up until Menopause (the point when eggs are no longer released.)
Menopause – the last menstrual period.
Postmenopause – the years following menopause where symptoms begin to ease. Health risks need to be monitored due to the loss of estrogen.
